Cambridgeshire FA - developing football for everyone

Barry Brewer

8:52 AM, Tuesday, 13 July 10.

20 January 1947 - 12 July 2010

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Barry Brewer passed away during the early hours of yesterday morning, Monday 12 July.

Barry’s involvement in football began when his son played for Abington Aztecs nearly 30 years ago. Barry’s wife Glynis also was involved and became the Club Secretary. Barry became Chairman of the Aztecs in 1985 and was so up to his death.

In 1992 Barry became Chairman of the Cambridge & District Colts League and once again this is a position he continued to hold until his death.

In 1993 Barry joined the Cambridgeshire FA and, although Barry’s involvement in the main was Youth football, he served on other Committees also. In 2002 he was elected as the County Match Committee Chairman and since then made a wonderful job of quite a difficult position.

Barry was truly a ‘one-off’ and a very likeable person who would always help anyone. He will be sadly missed by his wife, two children and grandchildren and will be an immense loss for all those connected with local football.
